To renew your TDLR license, you will need to renew your license on the TDLR website and also complete a 4-hour Continuing Education course. Below are the steps to renew your license on the TDLR website.
Already renewed your license?
Buildforce syncs directly with the TDLR website. Once your license is marked "Active" on the TDLR website, we will automatically verify it on our end. It can take 1-3 business days for your TDLR license status to update to “Active” on TDLR’s website. After verification, you will be able to apply for jobs in the mobile app again.

How to Renew Your TDLR License
1. To renew your TDLR license, click on the following link: https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/App_Online
Once you are on the page, click Electrician Licensing
2. Next, click your license type renewal on the right-hand side (e.g., Apprentice Electrician Renewal, Journeyman Electrician Renewal, etc.)
3. Fill out your information and click Continue
4. Follow the steps to pay for your TDLR license renewal. You will need to provide your updated mailing address so your license can be sent to your home, along with your payment information.

Licenses that have expired for over 18 months must be renewed by mail. After 3 years, you must reapply as a new applicant. Visit tdlr.texas.gov for full details.
5. In addition to the TDLR renewal payment, you MUST also complete a 4-hour continuing education course. Buildforce offers a 4-hour, TDLR-approved CE course for $5. The course is fully online and self-paced. Learn more below.
How to Complete Buildforce's Continuing Education Course
1. Open the Buildforce app and tap on the CE course card.
2. You'll be taken to the course page in your phone's browser. Tap Buy this course and pay $5.
3. Complete all three sections:
Electrical Safety Practices (30 min)
Texas Laws and Rules Related to Electricians (30 min)
National Electrical Code (NEC) Updates (3 hours)
You can start and stop whenever you want. Your progress is saved.
4. Once you finish, you'll receive a certificate of completion and your Buildforce profile updates automatically.
5. You still need to renew your license through TDLR separately, as instructed above.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if my license is already expired?
If it's been less than 18 months since it expired, you can still take the course. Complete your CE, then renew through TDLR with the late fee listed above. Your Buildforce profile updates automatically once your license is active again. If it's expired for over 18 months, contact TDLR directly.
