The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA) requires employers to verify new employees' identity and employment authorization. All US employers must complete Form I-9 for each employee they hire within three days of hire.

Employees must present valid documents to prove their identity and employment authorization, and employers must assess the validity of these documents and record the information on Form I-9. Employers must retain the form for a designated period and make it available for inspection by authorized government officials. Violations of this policy, or related guidance documents, can result in disciplinary action, including termination.

This process is known as the I-9 Process, which is important to ensure that only eligible employees are working in the US. At Buildforce, we use a third-party provider called Workbright. Workbright is a tool that enables I-9 verification remotely or in person. Their software is compliant and easy to use.

Summary: Buildforce is an equal-opportunity employer and does not discriminate against citizenship status or national origin. We require you to provide documents proving eligibility to work in the United States.

How to Submit Your I-9?

We have launched a new and more convenient way for you to submit your I-9 paperwork to us in the Buildforce app. To begin, go to the What's next section under the Find Jobs tab in your Buildforce app. Select 'Start'.

You will be prompted to submit your employment eligibility paperwork with us. After you submit, a family or friend will need to validate your paperwork in the exact location.

Once both sections are complete, we will take care of the rest!

The video below is used for testing purposes only and is shown as an example.

My first day is tomorrow. Do I have to have this done by then?

Section 1 of the I-9 is required to be submitted on the first day of work. You'll need to set up a Workbright Account and upload your I-9 documentation on the first day of work.

Section 2 of the I-9 is required to be completed within three business days AFTER the start date. Section 2 is completed remotely by a Family, Friend, or Buildforce in person.

Do we E-verify?

E-Verify is an online system that enables enrolled employers to determine if their employees are eligible to work in the US. It compares specific information on employees' Form I-9 to federal databases.

As of Aug 1, 2023 - We do not use e-verify.

Do you have Spanish Form I-9?

Only employers and employees in Puerto Rico can complete the Spanish version of Form I-9. Spanish-speaking employers and employees in the 50 states and other U.S. territories may print this for reference. Still, they must complete the form in English to meet employment eligibility verification requirements.

I'm confused. Do you have instructions?

US Citizen and Immigration Services provided detailed I-9 Instructions.
