⚠️ This article is only meant for tradespeople hired to work at Alterman.

Who is Alterman?

Alterman is a union contractor, and they are required to use the union first. If they can’t find anyone, they can self-perform and hire internally. They have a staff of nearly 1,000 electricians and have operated since 1923. They started in San Antonio, grew into Austin, and are also in New Mexico.

Process at the Union Hall

  • Initiation Fee - $54 (one time, this is the first month of dues)

  • Monthly Dues - $44/mo

  • Need the physical DL/ID and Social Security Card

  • OSHA 10 - the card is best; a PDF version of the certificate

  • You can resign afterward if you don’t want to be a part of the union anymore

  • Tool list from the Union

Alterman’s Onboarding/Orientation Process

  1. Monday - Orientation kicks off at 8 am and 11 am on Mondays at the Alterman Office: 7805 N Loop 1604 E Bldg. 2, Live Oak, TX 78233

    1. First, the orientation takes about two and a half hours to complete paperwork (I9, setting up direct deposit, W-4, etc.)

    2. Second, they’ll head to get a drug screen after the orientation

    3. Third, they’ll head to the Union Hall for paperwork and to get their “union card” and their membership set up

  2. Tuesday - 8 hr safety training on Tuesday

  3. Wednesday - Head out to the job site!

    1. Leonard and the Alterman team will provide that information to tradespeople.
